EVE is a unique game in this sense: the ripples of one player's actions reverberate across the entire game universe, and can lead to an untold amount of death, loss and destruction. In this case, it is estimated (through EVE Online's system of equating in-game currency to real-world dollars) that this battle destroyed about $18,000 dollars worth of virtual ships, enhancements and upgrades.
It's an incredible look into an MMO all its own. EVE's got a flavor that's super unique and a fervent fan base to support it.
